Close to the Asokan Pillar is the famous sacred pool Puskarini believed
to be the sacred pond in which Mayadevi took a bath just before giving
birth to the Lord and also where the infant Buddha was given his first
purificatary bath. The pool has there projecting terraces in descending
order and is revered with brick masonry.
